Fundamentals

For the 2019-2020 school year College Park Elementary will be implementing Reading and Writing Fundamentals.  The mission of Reading Fundamentals is to develop, expand, and enhance the skills, strategies, and tools students use to make meaning of, and interact with, text.  The Units of Study provide a balanced literacy framework. Within the framework, students will be read to using mentor texts, read shared texts with their peers, and read independently.

The mission of Writing Fundamentals is to improve students’ writing by providing explicit instruction that focuses on demonstrating why writers write and how writers communicate their ideas effectively.  Authentic examples of various genres and text types are used to enable students to write with power and purpose.

College Park Elementary Math Curriculum is driven by statewide instructional frameworks that are meant to be flexible, living documents to guide classroom instruction.  Each framework contains sets of grade-level standards organized into clusters of connected mathematical concepts and a suggested sequence and approximate time frame for each cluster. There is a clear focus on how mathematics concepts connect and the progression of students’ thinking as they move toward mastery of the standards.
